Pigeonholed

Happy. Sad. Joyful, silly, mad. These words describe emotions, but what if we were unable to speak about feelings by their titles? How would you explain a sensation without defaulting to its name? And do not dare try to use a synonym. Think of anger. Think of fury. Think of madness. Now speak what you are feeling. Tense, burning hot, cold. Try using a smell: sweat and horse flesh. Round two: Joy. Color? Yellow. Warm, soft, friendly. But the point is not how we describe the emotion. It is just that we take it for granted. We label what we feel and we pigeonhole it into perfect boxes. But emotions are not perfect; they are messy, sloppy things. So stop trying to contain them, and try to see them with different eyes.
